Keeps rain out, even in a long, heavy downpour. The fabric itself blocks water and, on most styles, the seams are taped (sealed) so rain can’t creep in through the stitching.

Best for Standing on the touchline in heavy rain, coaching, all-weather walking

The fabric is treated or tightly woven so water beads up and runs off. Handles light to moderate rain for a good while, but in a sustained downpour water will eventually get through, usually at seams and zips.

Best for Training, warm-ups and matchdays in changeable weather

Copes with a passing shower or drizzle. Fine for short spells of light rain, but not built for prolonged or heavy rain.

Best for Mostly dry days with the odd shower, travelling to and from games

Built for wind, warmth or freedom of movement, so Macron doesn’t give these a rain rating. Pop a waterproof over the top if rain is forecast.

Best for Windy training sessions, layering and dry, cold days
